About Us
Who is BDC?
Burlington Development Company Ltd (“Burlington”) manages the affairs of Agro Expo Farms Limited, the owner of the Burlington Estate, a 472 acre property located at Snow Hill in Portland. The Estate has extensive frontage along the North Coast Highway and the last 2 miles of the Rio Grande River (the last 2 miles of the Rio Grande Rafting Tour) runs through the property.
Burlington operates a mining plant which extracts and processes volcanic aggregate and sand from the Rio Grande river within the land’s borders. This extraction is essential not only to protect our shoreline from “scouring” erosion and the flooding of our flatland, but also to protect the pylons if the bridge across the Rio Grande and mitigate flooding upriver in the valley.

Why choose BDC?
The mining and quarrying sector in Jamaica continues to grow, bolstered by the steady growth in the construction sector. Volcanic aggregate—graded sand and gravel—is the preferred raw material for concrete because it achieves the highest consistent test results (PSI). It is also the required raw material for asphaltic concrete as the alternative (limestone) is banned as a road surface material in many countries.
While limestone aggregate exists, and is mined from many locations across the island, volcanic (river) aggregate is derived mainly from St Thomas, Portland, St Mary and Clarendon. No other parish has commercially viable quantities in locations accessible to main roads.
We supply four different sizes of stones and sand.
